There's a reason people say the game don't lie.

You can talk all you want. You can hype yourself up, post highlights, wear the gear. But when the ball goes up and the clock starts running, everything gets real fast. I've been around sports my whole life — playing, watching — and the one thing I know for certain is that sports strips everything down to the truth.

I grew up playing baseball. Not D1 ball, not even varsity all four years — but I played. And what that diamond taught me, no classroom ever could.

It taught me that effort is non-negotiable. You can be the most talented guy on the floor and still get outworked by someone half your size who just refuses to quit. I've seen it happen. I've been on both sides of it.

It taught me about accountability. When you miss the shot, you can't blame the rim forever. At some point you have to look in the mirror and ask yourself what you're going to do differently next time.

And it taught me about team. Real team. Not the kind where everybody gets a trophy and nobody keeps score. The kind where you trust the guy next to you with your life — or at least with the ball in the fourth quarter.

I'll be honest — some of what I see in sports today bothers me. The entitlement. The drama. Players who care more about their brand than their teammates. Coaches who are afraid to hold their guys accountable because somebody might post about it.

But then I'll watch a guy dive on a loose ball in a game that's already decided, or see a veteran stay after practice to work with a rookie, and I remember why I love this thing.

The game is still good. The game is still honest.

Sports isn't just entertainment. It's a mirror. It shows us what we value, how we handle adversity, and whether we're willing to do the work when nobody's watching.

That's why I'll always love it. And that's why I'll always have something to say about it.
